On August 29 and September 1, 2025, Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, organized an enriching industrial visit to Reliance Stores for the PGDM–Retail Management (2025 - 2027) batch. The visit, guided by Ms. Neetu Singh, Mr. Dharmesh Chand, and Mr. Sourabh, transformed the store environment into a live classroom, offering students hands-on exposure to the science of retail operations and consumer engagement.
To diversify learning, students were divided into groups and visited different store formats. While some explored Reliance Smart, focusing on large-scale grocery retailing and mass promotions, others visited Reliance Digital, gaining insights into customer engagement in the electronics and technology segment. A third group visited Reliance Trends, where they learned about fashion retailing, visual merchandising, and lifestyle branding. This multi-format exposure enabled students to see how a single retail brand adapts strategies across diverse categories to cater to evolving consumer needs.
Throughout the walkthrough, students examined how store layouts, promotional schemes (such as Buy 1 Get 1 offers and 9-number pricing), and festive packaging strategies influence customer behavior and drive sales.
The fresh produce section highlighted the importance of quality management in perishables, where techniques like misting, culling, grading, and crisping were demonstrated. Students also observed the cash counters—not just billing points, but crucial touchpoints for customer service, queue management, and impulse promotions.
Additionally, the visit shed light on the division of roles within a retail store, from inventory tracking and shelf replenishment to product display and customer assistance, emphasizing how coordination and role clarity ensure seamless operations in a competitive market.
