From Reading Charts to Reading Clients: How a PGDM Intern Landed a ₹7.60 LPA Offer at Deloitte
The majority of equity research internships are teaching you how to read a candlestick chart. In his internship, Sakksham Shrivastava learned to read a chart and a client —Turns out, that was the only combination that really mattered.

Sakksham, a student of PGDM batch 2025–27 at JIMS Rohini and an aspiring Finance professional from Lucknow had worked for three months as an Equity Research Intern in the Barakhamba Road office of Aditya Birla Capital based in Connaught Point, New Delhi. It was a performance-linked role — one where you earned only through sales bonuses and not a fixed stipend — so exposure was, in fact, the real defining reward. A working knowledge of two extremely opposite sides of financial services as well as a final placement offer from Deloitte USI (Hyderabad) worth ₹7.60 LPA.
- The research side
Sakksham divided their time between technical and fundamental work on the analysis desk. He executed and reviewed intraday trades; prepared daily P&L reports, backtested strategies using RSI, MACD VWAP, Fibonacci retracements and Bollinger Bands. He focused on a sector, auto-ancillaries identifying 12 to 15 companies and valuing them using P/E and PEG ratios both of which help spot value and growth which are the vocabulary of comparative valuation that makes stock-pickers different from market-watchers.
He did this with a simple toolkit that professional analysts use: Kite, TradingView, Streak, Screener, Excel and Smallcase.

The client-facing sidee
The sales floor was the less conventional segment of the internship. Saksham would acquire clients and push mutual funds based financial products whilst also meeting prospects to understand their financial aspirations and actively selling ULIP (Unit Linked Insurance Plan). It's a part of the industry that research interns rarely experience: how it really gets positioned and sold to a customer, not just represented on a spreadsheet.
-
Adding a certification mid-internship
Balancing two tracks together, Sakksham also cleared the IC-38 certification exam — which is mandatory to work as an insurance sales person in India. It's like taking away a formal credential in addition to experiential learning exposure, but now adding this as something that had to be cleared while juggling an internship for the research/client work on start-ups.

Where it led
This mix — analytical depth plus client-facing ease — culminated in a final placement with Deloitte USI, Hyderabad, for ₹ 7.60 LPA.
According to the takeaway for the internship from Sakksham, it was able to combine everything in one umbrella, be it Equity Research, Market Analysis, Client acquisition and financial product sales. Not just one of them but all four at once bridging a gap between Academic Learning & Practicing.
