Bridging Theory and Practice in Compensation Management

JIMS Rohini organised an enriching session on Contemporary Practices in Compensation Management, conducted by Mr. Pankaj Gupta, an esteemed alumnus of the JIMS and currently the Head of Human Resources at Aditi Consulting on 28th Nov 2025. His industry experience brought a practical lens to understanding how modern organisations design salary structures and manage compensation policies in alignment with legal and financial frameworks.

The session offered a comprehensive explanation of key salary components such as Basic Pay, HRA, LTA, PF, company-specific allowances, and the significance of the standard deduction. Students gained clarity on how HRA exemptions are calculated, the structure of Provident Fund contributions, and the changes introduced after 2018 regarding conveyance and medical allowances. A major takeaway was understanding the real difference between CTC, Gross Salary, and In-Hand Salary—highlighting why the amount mentioned in offer letters often differs from what employees actually receive.

Overall, the knowledge shared helped bridge the gap between theoretical HR concepts and real payroll management practices. The session empowered students to confidently analyse salary slips, make informed decisions while reviewing job offers, and develop a practical understanding of organisational compensation strategies—skills essential for future HR and management professionals.
