Day 1: Foundations of Investment Banking

The first day focused on establishing a solid foundation. Mr. Taneja introduced the core pillars of the industry, detailing the essential characteristics and skill sets required to succeed as a high-performing investment banker. He provided an in-depth look into the facilities and services offered by investment banks, such as capital raising, advisory, and restructuring.

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to Valuation Methodologies. Students were guided through:

  • Absolute Valuation: Understanding the intrinsic value of a company through discounted cash flows.
  • Relative Valuation: Learning how to value a business based on market comparables and industry multiples.

Day 2: Technical Skills and Mock Interviews

The second day transitioned into the technical application of banking concepts using Advanced Excel. Mr. Taneja mentored students on critical functions that are the "bread and butter" of analysts, including VLOOKUP, INDEX & MATCH, and data cleaning techniques.

The highlight of the day was a deep dive into a Financial Model of a Bank. Mr. Taneja showcased a professional-grade model, explaining the complex forecasting logic and assumptions used in its preparation. This gave students a rare, "behind-the-scenes" look at how professional analysts project financial health and growth.

To conclude the workshop, Mr. Taneja conducted a Mock Interview with a student candidate. This interactive session was invaluable, as it demystified the recruitment process and highlighted the specific technical and behavioural questions common in the investment banking circuit.
