The PGDM-International Business Department of Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, organized an enriching workshop for the students of PGDM-IB (2025–27) on “Shipping Procedures for International Business (Ocean Imports)” on 28th February 2026. The session was conducted by Mr. Kuldeep Sewak, Senior Manager – Sales, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (India), who shared valuable industry insights into the global shipping and logistics landscape.
Mr. Sewak began with an overview of shipping’s role in the global economy, highlighting that over 80% of world trade by volume is carried by sea. He traced the evolution of the shipping industry from ancient trade routes to modern mega container vessels, and familiarized students with major global shipping lines, key trade routes, sea ports, and Inland Container Depots (ICDs). The session covered the complete ocean import cycle — from purchase order and booking through customs clearance to final delivery — with emphasis on critical documents such as the Bill of Lading, Bill of Entry, and Delivery Order. Students also gained clarity on common Incoterms, freight pricing models, cargo release procedures, and post-delivery best practices.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A that saw enthusiastic participation from students. Overall, it was a highly practical and industry-relevant learning experience that deepened students’ understanding of international shipping operations and trade documentation.
