The PGDM-International Business Department of Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, organized an educational visit for the students of PGDM-IB (2025–27) to the Air Cargo Warehouse at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, on 18th March 2026. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to air cargo operations and the logistics involved in international trade through air transport.
During the visit, students were introduced to the end-to-end functioning of an air cargo warehouse. The officials at the facility explained the complete process flow, starting from cargo arrival at the terminal to its screening, documentation, customs clearance, and final dispatch. Students gained insights into the handling of different types of cargo, including perishable goods, hazardous materials, and high-value consignments.
The visit also highlighted the importance of speed, efficiency, and security in air freight operations. Students observed the use of advanced technologies such as X-ray screening systems, cargo tracking mechanisms, and automated handling equipment. Key documents involved in air cargo logistics, such as the Air Waybill (AWB), were explained in detail, along with the role of customs authorities and freight forwarders.
An interactive discussion was held during the visit, where students engaged with industry professionals and clarified their queries related to air freight costs, regulatory requirements, and global logistics challenges. The practical exposure helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world logistics operations.
Overall, the Air Cargo Warehouse Visit was an insightful and enriching experience, enhancing students’ understanding of air cargo management and its critical role in international business and trade.
