The PGDM Retail Management Department at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini organized an insightful Guest Lecture titled “Conflict Resolution” for PGDM Retail Management students on 1st September 2026. The session was conducted by Dr. Manpreet Uppal, Head – Coaching Operations at EdMyst – The Talent Transformation Platform.
The session focused on the practical aspects of conflict resolution, negotiation, effective communication, and stakeholder management. Dr. Uppal highlighted the importance of understanding the other party’s perspective, needs, expectations, and constraints before entering into a negotiation.
A key emphasis was placed on listening and understanding before making demands or quoting a price. Students learned that successful negotiation is not simply about achieving one’s own objective, but about identifying common interests and creating mutually beneficial outcomes.
An interactive supplier–store manager negotiation activity further enabled students to apply these concepts in a practical business scenario. The activity helped students understand how different stakeholders may have different priorities and reinforced the importance of asking relevant questions, active listening, flexibility, and understanding interests beyond price.
The session also provided valuable insights into conflict resolution, emphasizing the role of patience, communication, and understanding different perspectives in managing disagreements constructively.
Overall, the session successfully connected classroom learning with real-world negotiation and conflict management practices, helping students develop a more practical approach to handling workplace interactions and stakeholder relationships.
