The FPM, Department at JIMS, Rohini had hosted Dr. Puja Khatri, Professor, USMS, GGSIP University on 30th January 2026 for conducting a session on ‘Demystifying the basics of research: Introduction to variables, constructs & dimensions’ with its new batch of research scholars.
During the session, Dr. Puja explained that confusion at the beginning of a research is completely natural and an essential part of the research learning process. She advised the scholars to first identify their areas of interest before finalizing a topic. She suggested extensive reading from multiple sources such as: standard textbooks, newspapers, business magazines, consultancy and industry reports. She explained that regular reading helps a researcher to understand practical problems and current trends, which later helps in the topic selection. Moreover, she emphasized that by reading extensively, scholars can identify important issues and gaps in the existing knowledge that forms the foundation of a strong research topic. She also highlighted that identifying novelty is essential in any research. Furthermore, she strongly recommended using databases like Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus for building a strong conceptual and theoretical framework for the study.
Overall, the session was highly informative and particularly beneficial for early-stage research scholars. Dr. Puja successfully simplified complex research concepts and provided clear guidance on how to move from a broad concept to a well-defined construct. The session helped research scholars gain confidence and clarity in the initial stages of their research journey.
