The PGDM Retail Management Department at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS),
Rohini organized an insightful Guest Session on “Understanding the
Impact of Geopolitical Developments on Retail Markets, with a Focused Analysis of India and the
USA” for PGDM-RM (2025–2027) students on 11th September
2026. The session was conducted by Mr. Kaushik Ghosh, Chief Executive Officer at Ameya Projects
Inc.
The session explored how geopolitical developments are influencing global retail, sourcing, manufacturing,
and supply chains. Mr. Ghosh explained why retailers must look beyond cost and consider factors such as
tariffs, logistics disruptions, regulatory risks, currency volatility, ESG requirements, and supplier dependency.
A key focus was the concept of risk-adjusted landed cost and the shift towards China Plus
One, multi-country sourcing, friendshoring, and nearshoring strategies. Students also gained insights
into India’s growing role in global manufacturing and retail, along with its evolving trade
and strategic relationship with the USA.
The session further highlighted the importance of localisation, regulatory understanding, efficient
logistics, and supply chain resilience for global retailers operating in India. Real-world examples,
including Apple’s growing manufacturing presence in India, helped students connect
geopolitical developments with practical retail and business decisions.
An interactive Question-and-Answer session allowed students to explore topics including
India’s luxury retail potential, China dependency, logistics challenges, regulatory issues, and
maintaining affordable prices amid global supply chain disruptions.
Overall, the session successfully connected classroom concepts with real-world geopolitical and retail
developments, highlighting the importance of resilience, flexibility, and strategic
decision-making in the future of global retail.
