A guest lecture was conducted on 4th August 2026 for the PGDM 2025–27 batch, focusing on important aspects of labour laws and the Code on Wages, 2019. The session was delivered by Mr. Ravi Prakash Ojha, who previously worked as an Executive Director at Power Grid Corporation of India. The session provided us with an opportunity to understand wage-related legislation from both a legal and practical perspective and helped us connect these concepts with their relevance in the workplace. The session began with an overview of the Code on Wages, 2019, covering important areas such as minimum wages, payment of wages, bonus payments and equal remuneration.
The discussion helped us understand the importance of minimum wages in ensuring financial protection for employees and the provisions related to the timely payment of wages. Another important aspect covered was bonus payment, including its connection with employee performance and statutory requirements. An example involving the calculation of bonus at 8.33% was discussed to make the concept easier to understand. The session also highlighted the principle of equal remuneration and its significance in promoting fairness and reducing gender-based disparities in the workplace. Mr. Ojha further discussed the challenges associated with older labour laws, including differences in definitions, complexities in compliance and the absence of common definitions, helping us understand the importance of consolidating and simplifying labour legislation.
The session also covered the wage structure, particularly the significance of basic pay and its relationship with other salary components, employee benefits and statutory payments. The practical examples helped us understand how changes in wage regulations can affect both employees and employers. Overall, the guest lecture was informative and highly relevant to our academic learning, especially from the perspective of Human Resource Management and employment practices. It helped us understand the practical implications of labour laws for salary structures, employee benefits, equality, compliance and organisational policies. The interactive and example-based approach adopted by Mr. Ravi Prakash Ojha made the session engaging and helped us develop a clearer understanding of wage-related legislation and its relevance in the modern workplace.
