Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, organised an insightful academic session on “Strategic Financial Decision Making: From Financial Analysis to Value Creation” for the PGDM-IB and RM students on 12th September 2026. The session was conducted by Mr. Harpreet Singh, FCS, ACMA, Registered Valuer (Securities or Financial Assets) with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).
The session focused on developing students’ understanding of how financial analysis and valuation techniques can support strategic business decisions and contribute to long-term value creation. The speaker highlighted the importance of analysing financial statements, assessing business performance, understanding financial risks, and evaluating the underlying value of a business or financial asset before making strategic decisions.
A key component of the session was the concept of business valuation, wherein students were introduced to the importance of determining the economic worth of a business or financial asset. The discussion covered how valuation supports investment decisions, mergers and acquisitions, financial planning, fundraising, and strategic decision-making. Students also gained an understanding of how factors such as future cash flows, profitability, growth prospects, risk, and market conditions influence valuation.
Through practical insights and industry-oriented perspectives, the session connected theoretical financial concepts with real-world applications. The speaker emphasised that effective financial decision-making is not merely about analysing historical performance but also about identifying future potential, assessing risks, estimating value, and creating sustainable shareholder and business value.
The interactive session enabled students to strengthen their understanding of financial analysis, business valuation, investment evaluation, risk assessment, and strategic financial decision-making. It provided valuable exposure to the practical role of finance in driving sustainable growth and enhancing business value.
