NMAT 2026 Syllabus: Section-Wise Topics for Language, Quant & Logical Reasoning

October 26, 2026

What you end up with is a consistent format over years, consisting of three parts:Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The silver lining here is that the syllabus has remained unchanged over years, which means if you have already started your prep for 2025, it will be applicable to NMAT also in 2026.

NMAT 2026 Syllabus at a Glance

Section Questions Time Weightage
Language Skills 36 28 minutes Equal (1/3)
Quantitative Skills 36 52 minutes Equal (1/3)
Logical Reasoning 36 40 minutes Equal (1/3)
Total 108 120 minutes —

Each section is worth exactly the same — each section has 36 questions and contributes fully to the scaled score range of 36 to 360. An important structural rule: sections run on their own timers, and once you have moved away from a section you can't return to it. Hence, even for a good Quant score, doing the Language Skills section quickly will not do the needful — each section has to be planned separately.

Section 1: Language Skills Syllabus

The overall command of the English language- grammar, vocabulary, and reading speed handled in this section is the most time-pressured portion with 36 questions in only 28 minutes.

Key topics:

  • Reading Comprehension (multiple short passages instead of one long)
  • Para Forming and Para Completion
  • Error Identification and Sentence Correction
  • Prepositions and Sentence Completion
  • Vocabulary-based questions and Analogies
  • Verbal Reasoning-adjacent grammar questions

Prep tip: Go for reading fluency — not depth, as speed is more important here — with daily editorials and short business articles over long novels. Vocabulary training should be done in context, not individual word lists.

Section 2: Quantitative Skills Syllabus

This is the least time-pressured section (52 minutes for 36 questions) as this area generally has clusters of Data Interpretation sets, and thus, it requires basic fundamentals to be developed since it usually carries high weightage.

Key topics:

  • Basic concepts of arithmetic (percentages, ratios, profit & loss, time-speed-distance, averages)
  • Algebra (linear and quadratic equations, inequalities)
  • Number Properties
  • Probability and Permutations & Combinations
  • Data Interpretation (Tables, Graphs and Caselets)
  • Data Sufficiency

The topics are drawn from Class 10–12 mathematics, and higher-level number theory isn't tested. If your basics are solid, this section rewards accuracy over speed more than the other two.

Section 3: Logical Reasoning Syllabus

Logical Reasoning comprises 36 questions to be solved in 40 minutes, classified broadly into Analytical Reasoning (puzzle-based) and Critical Reasoning (argument+based).

Key topics:

  • Seating Arrangements (linear and circular)
  • PuzzlesArrangements and Scheduling GridsFamily Trees
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Blood Relations
  • Syllogisms and Deductions
  • Assumptions, strengthen/weaken arguments, and conclusions in critical reasoning
  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning

Analytical Puzzles generally have the highest weightage of questions here. This section rewards systematic elimination, so practicing diagram-oriented solving — as opposed to mental tracking — is both faster and more accurate.

Is the NMAT 2026 Syllabus Different from Previous Years?

No. The syllabus is unchanged for several cycles, and no new additions or deletions have been indicated for 2026. However, if you have been preparing with NMAT 2025 material, question banks, or mock tests — that preparation translates directly.

How to Prioritise Your NMAT 2026 Prep

A common pitfall is over-indexing on your best section, since all three sections are weighted the same. This is what a more balanced approach would look like:

  • The first step in study planning is diagnosis: Identify — Map out your weak areas and practice using a full-length mock.
  • Focus on Quant fundamentals first — given its largest time buffer, solid bases here allow the mental energy needed for the remaining two sections.
  • Value timed practice over untimed reading 28-minute practice sets beat unlimited reading
  • Logical Reasoning puzzle sorting practise — Train yourself to scan and sort puzzles by difficulty level within 1 minute, attempt easiest first — makes marks in the bag quicker.
  • Attempt sectional mocks, not just full-length ones — Since NMAT doesn't allow any movement between sections (in exams like CAT), timing practice matters more in this exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Does GMAC publish an official NMAT syllabus PDF?

Q2: Which NMAT section has the highest weightage?

No — all three (Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Logical Reasoning) sections are equally weighted with 36 questions each.

Q3: Is the NMAT 2026 syllabus different from NMAT 2025?

A: No, It has been the same for the last few years and will not change in 2026 cycle as well

Q4: Which section of NMAT 2026 has the most time per question?

There are 36 questions in the Quantitative Skills section with a total of 52 minutes — about 86 seconds per question, longer than either of the other two sections.

Q5: Can I move between sections during the NMAT exam?

No. You are unable to go back once you get through or past the section. There is a separate timer for each of the 3 sections.

Q6: What level of maths is tested in NMAT Quantitative Skills?

The syllabus is not an NMAT course because it contains mathematics from Class 10–12, rather than number theory.
